Another Thought on Mark

I’m sure this isn’t an original thought to me.

Adam and Eve were in a beautiful garden with full stomachs, well rested, perfect fellowship and perfect relationship with each other and God, and they could not resist the temptation of Satan.

Jesus was in a wilderness, hungry, alone, exhausted, physically separated from the other persons of the Trinity (don’t understand that, but . . . ) and still resisted Satan.

Such is the difference between the Divine and the created. His ways are that different from ours.

  Oh, I like that. That makes so much sense!

  But, I think the point of the temptation of Christ not that he was Divine and we aren’t, but that he was a man AS WE ARE, yet did not sin – even in greater temptation. The comfort and encouragement of that account is his victory over Satan AS MAN, then his sympathy with us in our weakness, having been tempted as we are.
